Curbs to be Replaced in Front of Starke County Annex Building No. 2

Work will be done to replace the curbs in front of the Starke County Annex Building No. 2 in Knox.

A few months ago the Starke County Commissioners mentioned to Maintenance Director Jim Coad about the safety concern of the curbs alongside the Pearl Street sidewalk in front of the second annex building. A quote was approved by Covenant Concrete and that work will be done as soon as the contractor’s time allows.

Paving Portion of Hamlet’s Starke Street Project Wrapping Up, Sidewalk Work to Start Soon

The paving portion of Hamlet’s Starke Street project is essentially complete. Walsh & Kelly rebuilt the road from Plymouth Street to U.S. 30, making drainage improvements in the process. During Wednesday’s town council meeting, Council President Dave Kesvormas said the street looks really good. It was also mentioned that no drainage issues were noticed the last time it rained.

Concrete Bid Approved for 50/50 Sidewalk Program in Knox

  
 

The Knox Board of Public Works members approved a bid for the 50/50 sidewalk program in a special meeting on Thursday morning.

The board approved the lowest conforming bid from Covenant Concrete in the amount of $22,395. That includes all 12 properties and the ADA compliant accessible curbs for properties at 55 E. Lake Street, 53 E. Water Street and 707 S. Shield Street. The city is responsible for paying for the ADA accessible curbs.

Knox BOW Approved Bid for 50/50 Sidewalk Program

The Knox Board of Works met in special session Friday in order to open and award a bid for the 50/50 sidewalk program.

Five businesses provided bids: Custom Concrete, Pete Kuchel Concrete, Do All Concrete, EAM Enterprise, and Covenant Concrete.

Mayor Rick Chambers read aloud the bids for the nine addresses of homeowners who submitted applications for the project. In the end, the Board of Works approved the bid of Covenant Concrete with a total bid of $13,940 as the lowest conforming bid pending a review of the bid packet by Street Superintendent Jeff Borg and City Attorney David Matsey.

Knox City Streets Paving Contract Awarded To E&B Paving

E&B Paving has been awarded the Knox City Streets paving contract, pending review of the city attorney and street superintendent. The bid came in at $74,855.

Streets to be paved include Division Street from 300 East to the railroad tracks, Chicago Street from U.S. 35 to Prettyman Street, the alley behind Lady Bug Cleaners, St. Louis Street from U.S. 35 to Pearl Street, and South Portland Street from Culver Road to Delaware Street. Lafayette Street from Bower Street to Roosevelt Road will also be paved, along with Pearl Street from the railroad tracks to John Street.

Also, Covenant Concrete won the sidewalk construction bid for $15,323. Sidewalks will be installed on John, Prettyman, Shield, and Lafayette streets, near U.S.A Cafe and the Pearl Street Clinic.
