Two defendants were sentenced in Starke Circuit Court this week after they failed to pay child support.
Daniel Roberts pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the state on a charge of non-support of a dependent child as a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to 30 months in the Starke County Justice Center, but that sentence is stayed as long as he pays child support as ordered in a previous court hearing. He is currently $16,000 behind in child support payments.
Brian Hall pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the state on two counts of non-support of a dependent child as a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to 24 months in the Starke County Justice Center on each count with all of the sentence stayed as long as he pays his child support as ordered in a previous court hearing. Those sentences will be served consecutively. He is currently behind in payments of about $12,000 and $30,000 for two children.
If either defendant fails to make one payment on time, he will need to spend the stayed sentences in jail as detailed in the plea agreement.
