The Public is Welcome to Join Tonight’s Meeting of the Starke County Organizations Active in Disaster

Members of the Starke County Organizations Active in Disaster or COAD will meet tonight at 5:30 p.m. CT.

Facilitated by Starke County EMA Director J. Nier, members of this organization are working to develop a local network of individuals who will be ready to act when a disaster strikes.

The group met for the first time back in April, where some government officials, church leaders, members of the medical community and other concerned citizens discussed the areas that need improvement when it comes to disaster response in the county.

During the month of May, the initial meeting attendees were charged with spreading the word about the organization to see if they could bring in some more volunteers. The meeting tonight is open to the public and anyone interested in helping the community with emergency preparedness and disaster response is invited to attend.

Starke County COAD members will meet in the old Starke County Jail building which now serves as the Purdue Extension Office, located at 108 North Pearl Street. If you have any questions, contact Director Nier at 574-772-9182.
