Eastern Pulaski Paving, Concrete Work Behind Schedule

Paving work on the Eastern Pulaski Schools campus is being held up by the concrete portion of the project. Superintendent Dan Foster gave an update to the school board Monday.

“They’re behind on the asphalt right now because of the concrete,” he explained. “They don’t want to finish the paving until all the concrete is finished. Now, the concrete was partially Gibraltar and partially Rieth-Riley, according to the norms of a concrete raising company, because, like out by the football field, the track area, west of the concession stand, they had to take out all that concrete because they poured it flat and it wasn’t supposed to be although that’s how they make concrete bathrooms. It was actually on the design to have the curb down. So they had to tear all that up. They had to fix a couple other spots.”

Also delaying the concrete work is the corporation’s decision to add more ramps. Foster said he’s been waiting about three weeks for a price estimate. However, the contractors still think the project will be done by the time school starts.

At the same time, Foster asked board members to think about some additional lighting for the reconfigured southwest entrance. “I was very disappointed that we didn’t get the layout of that road until they pretty much started doing it,” he told board members. “What’s there now, the current road, one [lane] will turn right, one will turn left as an exit. Then, to the south of that, there’s going to be a little green space and then there would be the road and then the sidewalk and then the parking. So there’s going to need to be some kind of lighting there.” Board member Tim Rausch suggested getting new lights that had previously been discussed for the area around the basketball court, at the same time.

Once the asphalt work is finished, Foster wants to create a drone video to familiarize people with the new traffic pattern.
