Local Schools See Success with Recruitment Efforts at Starke County Fair

Last week’s Starke County Fair turned out to be a successful recruitment event for local schools. Area school corporations set up booths, to try to attract some out-of-district students.

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation had a couple students sign up, according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman. “One of the things that was different at the fair this year, we did have a form for out-of-district individuals,” he says. “If any individual lives out-of-district, who does not live in our school district but would be interested in having their children attend, we will look at all individuals and where they’re located at, and if we can provide transportation for students who reside outside the school district, we will.”

Also claiming success with this year’s fair was Knox Middle School Principal Jake Skelly. He told the Knox School Board Tuesday that two prospective students he spoke with at the fair have since come and registered.

Meanwhile, the Oregon-Davis School Board this week set the transfer student limit for the coming year. It’s a required step in order for school districts to accept out-of-district transfers. Harman says the corporation’s policy simply states that transfers may be limited if enrollment increases to the point that it would affect staffing.
