A teenager lost her life in a two vehicle accident at the intersection of State Road 8 and County Road 875 W. in La Porte County Sunday morning.
Deputies from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department say a passenger vehicle traveling north on County Road 875 W. in LaCrosse failed to yield to an oncoming semi traveling east on State Road 8. The semi reportedly hit the passenger vehicle and the force sent the vehicle off of the roadway and into a ditch.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, 17-year-old Rhyann Sikora, was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she died from her injuries, according to the report. A juvenile passenger remains in the hospital. The driver of the semi was not injured.
Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. All occupants in the two vehicles were wearing their seat belts.
Deputies from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department investigated the accident and were assisted by La Porte County EMS and the LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Department.
