A man accused of murdering Knox resident Cord Colgrove in a March 3, 2017 alleged confrontation in North Judson will be in Starke Circuit Court today as a defendant in a trial that is set to take a week-and-a-half.
Edward Blackburn allegedly shot Colgrove in the head after Colgrove walked up to Blackburn’s vehicle. Three witnesses reportedly saw the incident take place. Blackburn was arrested a short time later in Mishawaka and has been held in the Starke County Justice Center since his arrest last year.
Starke County Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff and Defense Attorney Caroline Briggs were before Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall on Friday to argue over a number of pre-trial motions and instructions. The defense presented a motion to continue, but the trial will go on as scheduled for today.
About 100 people will be at the Starke County Courthouse today as potential jurors in this case. Twelve jurors will be seated with one alternate. Once the jury is seated, opening statements will begin followed by sworn testimony in this incident.
The proceedings begin at 9 a.m. CT today.
