North Judson-Wayne Township Firefighters Battle Factory Fire

Firefighters fought a fire at American Oak in North Judson shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to information posted on the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department’s Facebook page, as they arrived on the scene firefighters could see fire through the roof of the industrial building at 601 Mulberry Street. Fire Chief Joe Leszek said the fire was extinguished prior to the arrival of other fire departments to provide assistance. The fire was contained to the portion of the building where it started.

Eighteen firefighters responded with mutual aid from the Railroad Township Fire Department, LaCrosse Fire Department and the Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department. They remained on scene to help with hot spots until their release.

Starke County EMS also responded to the scene.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation with the Indiana State Fire Marshal as normal protocol, although foul play is not suspected. No injuries were reported.
