Winamac Town Council members learned that they’ll be able to keep the Town’s business credit card with a local provider when they met this week.
Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger came before the town council during their first meeting in August to remind them about a resolution they passed in 2016 regarding a procurement card (P-Card). When the resolution was passed, the Town couldn’t obtain the card because they didn’t have an up-to-date audit at the time.
With an audit completed recently, they were finally eligible to receive the P-card. Clerk-Treasurer Berger explained that to receive the town’s current credit card from Key Bank she had to utilize her own personal information, such as her social security number, so she really wanted to make the switch as soon as possible.
However, since the proposed P-card was with BMO Harris Bank, which is based in Illinois, council members asked Berger to see if Key Bank offered an option that would allow them to switch to a card that would no longer require her information so they could remain local.
When members met in special session on Monday, Town Council President Tom Murray provided a bit of information about what she found, “The Key Bank Credit card, she found out they can do that.” Murray went on, “It’s called the Key 2 Business Commercial Card. [There are] zero monthly fees, no setup fee, no cancelation fee and no per card fee.”
Members cast a unanimous vote to allow Clerk-Treasurer Berger to pursue this option with Key Bank.
