Fire, Smoke Damage Claims Home in Southern Starke County

Firefighters with the Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 10,000 E. block of 900 South just after midnight on Tuesday.

According to Fire Chief Les Jensen, when firefighters arrived at the scene, smoke could be seen coming from the back door of the older trailer home. All occupants were able to escape from the structure safely, but Jensen says the home was a total loss.

No injuries were reported.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the cause and origin of the fire on Friday. The American Red Cross was called to help the family with needs.

The Monterey-Tippecanoe Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
