New metal detectors have arrived at the West Central School Corporation. Last week, the school board finalized a policy update when it comes to how they’ll be used, according to Superintendent Don Street. “I think it’s important to note that the handheld metal detectors are designed for individual searches based on reasonable suspicion,” he says.
Street adds that West Central is working with Pulaski County Sheriff Jeff Richwine to train school administrators how to use the new devices. The handheld metal detectors were received as part of Governor Eric Holcomb’s program to provide them free of charge to schools around the state.
Meanwhile, the school corporation will be installing updated school and bus radios this month, thanks to funding from this year’s Secured School Safety matching grant.
