Orientation Planned for Newly Elected Starke County Officials

Several state training opportunities are planned this week and in December for many of the newly elected officials taking office on Jan. 1. Starke County Commissioner Kathy Norem relayed some of the training courses available to the new office holders attending last week’s commissioners meeting.

In addition to the state training, Starke County Council members and Starke County Commissioners will plan orientation for newly elected officials so they are aware of local procedures and processes. Topics include budgeting, examining the employee handbook, the claims process, payroll, benefits, health insurance, unemployment, obtaining keys, security, IT, the upcoming Stellar Communities Designation effort, and travel policies, among others.

Norem noted that the General Election produced more new office holders than in recent years so these orientation opportunities will be very beneficial, especially for the taxpayers.
