Starke County Young Professionals Choose to Remain a Committee through the Chamber of Commerce

When the Starke County Young Professionals Group met earlier this month, they covered a few different organizational matters.

For instance, members discussed whether they should remain a committee under the Starke County Chamber of Commerce or if they should branch out and go through the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

There was a consensus among the members in attendance that it would be more beneficial to remain a committee under the Chamber for the time being.

One of the advantages of staying with the Chamber is that the group can utilize their accounting services so when future fundraisers are held, donations are made or dues is collected, the group will have access to a third party service that will account for any money.

Members also talked about the topic of dues. There was a suggestion to have annual dues of $50 but some felt that was too high. Another recommendation was made to potentially break the payment up into two different installments of $25. This would not only make the dues more affordable but it would only commit members to 6 months rather than a full year.

It was mentioned that dues wouldn’t be required for all of the participants but being a dues paying members would potentially come with some perks such as the ability to vote on matters, branded t-shirts and welcome packets from partnering businesses.

No official action was taken on what the dues should be or what it will cover but the topic will be revisited in future meetings.

Potential fundraisers were discussed as well and members landed on the idea of hosting a Trivia Night sometime within the next few months. The date, location, entry fee and the theme of the questions will be covered in greater detail when members meet next.

The next Starke County Young Professionals meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 11th at Route 10 in North Judson. Networking will run from 5:30 until 6 p.m. and then the meetings will officially begin at 6.

The group is looking to have a diverse mix of workers from various industries in Starke County represented in their organization. So whether work in an office, from home, at a factory or out in the field, your input would be valuable.

If you have any questions, you can contact organization representatives through the Starke County Young Professionals Facebook page.
