Members of a Community Task Force are busy assessing the facilities that make up the Knox Community School Corporation to help school board members make an informed decision on how to proceed with any building upgrades.
Tom Neff from Schmidt and Associates presented the findings of the Community Task Force to the Knox Community School Board Monday night after the 20-member group recently took a quick tour of the facilities. From that tour, they listed all of the good things and bad things at each building.
Overall, the members found that the Weinberg Gym is a community focal point. Neff said community members feel welcome at school activities. There is a general concern about the safety and security at each building and the entrances are difficult to find. Congestion surrounding traffic and parking also need to be reviewed at all facilities.
The pool at the high school was listed as a good and bad aspect because it needs some repair. The auditorium was determined to need some rehabilitation.
The Community Task Force members found that the middle school was the best school out of the three. They also felt that the newer section of the elementary school was better than the Palmer Wing.
In the end, Neff noted that these suggestions will be dissected and considered in the facilities study. He stressed that nothing is set in stone at this time.
All of the findings can be found on the Community Task Force blog at https://knoxschoolsmp.blogspot.com.
If there are upgrades to be recommended to the school board for final approval, the board members will probably need to decide on a financing timeline by May. More information on that will be provided in tomorrow’s news.
