The building that formerly housed the Independent Biker Association in downtown Knox will be demolished.
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok said a structural engineer assessed the building at 8 S. Main Street and found it to be damaged beyond repair and recommended it for demolition. The roof caved in months ago and water has damaged the inside of the building.
The Knox Board of Works members affirmed the order of demolition and will assess a civil penalty of $2,250 which is the cost of the engineer’s report.
Mayor Estok said he’d looking into obtaining a grant to tear down the building. Whatever grant match may be required or any additional costs not covered by the grant may be assessed to the owner.
Until the building is torn down, it will remain under enforcement.
