Sheriff Asks Starke County Council for Merit Board Pay Increase

Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin asked the Starke County Council members this week for an increase in pay for the Merit Board members out of sheriff’s budget.

The request came in an amendment of the Starke County Sheriff’s Department Commissary Fund resolution.  This would be an additional expenditure for the Merit Board out of the Commissary Fund, according to Dulin.

“We’re asking to raise the Merit Board pay from the existing $20 per member per meeting to $50,” explained Dulin.  “The current county General budget allows us $1,200. If we raise the pay, we will be looking to exceed that line item.  It’ll be $1,300 additional which I will pay out of Commissary with your approval.”

The Merit Board members hire officers, review disciplinary issues and resolve old issues.

The council members did approve the request as presented, with Tom DeCola abstaining from the vote.
