The opening of ambulance bids during last week’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting drew concerns from a couple of bidders. The county got a total of five bids from four companies, ranging from a little over $119,000 to almost $149,000. The apparent low bidder was Crossroads Ambulance Sales and Service out of Middlebury.
But representatives from two of the companies pointed out that some of the bids had remounted ambulance boxes, rather than brand new ones. EMS Director Brandon DeLorenzo said he’d requested a 2019 Ford gas-powered truck, but didn’t specify whether or not the box could be remounted. “I know our last three that we’ve purchased have been remounts,” he said, “and actually, one of them, it was one of our boxes that was remounted.”
One of the bidders felt that the county’s requirement that bidders have at least 20 years of manufacturing experience seemed to imply they wanted a new ambulance. The commissioners voted to let DeLorenzo and County Attorney Kevin Tankersley review the bids, before they make a decision.
