Be Prepared for Severe Weather

This week is Severe Weather Preparedness and Flood Safety Awareness Week in Indiana.

Every family, every school and every business should have to have an emergency plan so everyone knows how to respond when severe weather occurs.  It is also recommended to put together a disaster preparedness kit and family emergency communications plan.

The National Weather Service, in conjunction with local emergency management agencies, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Department of Education, Indiana State Police, Indiana Broadcasters Association, American Red Cross, and the amateur radio company will conduct a test of the Emergency Alert System and a test tornado warning at 10:15 a.m. ET on Tuesday, March 19.

As we approach spring, safety officials remind us that a Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop and a Tornado Warning means that a tornado has actually been sighted.

If high water is spotted on roads, turn around and don’t drown.  Seek an alternate route to get to your destination safely.
