Knox Board of Works members were informed this week that Wastewater Treatment Plant employees are currently “land applying” for the spring.
It is a common, state approved practice for stabilized wastewater treatment plant sludge to be applied to fields. Wastewater Superintendent Kelly Clemons previously reported that the department was unable to successfully secure any land in the fall so they currently have some excess material they’ve had to store over the winter.
She told members, “We have about 250,000 gallons. I’m not sure we’ll be able to get all that onto the fields that we’re using. Normally we have between 160,000 – 167,000 so between 80 and 90 [thousand] extra.”
Clemons said they’re currently seeking someone who’d be willing to help with transport since there’s a possibility they’ll need to utilize more fields than in past years.
She explained, “We’d like to find somebody that has tankards and if we could do that then we could haul to other fields pretty easily so if anybody knows of someone who has tankards that would be available for something like that, just let us know.”
