La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, Students Prepare for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office will be working with area students to collect unwanted, expired and unused prescription medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, representatives will accept prescription medications at the La Porte County Fairgrounds for proper disposal.

La Porte officials say that the misuse of prescription medication is just one of many addiction problems across the nation.

To prepare for the collection event, residents should put medications in a plastic Ziploc style bag.  Liquids, needles, prescription pill bottles and illegal narcotics will not be accepted.

If you are unable to attend the event, drop-off items in the secure collection box in the main lobby of the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.  It is open for collections year-round.
