Smith Sentenced to 15 Years for Dealing Meth

William Smith

A North Manchester man was sentenced in Starke Circuit Court on Wednesday morning on a Level 2 Felony charge of dealing in methamphetamine.

Willliam Smith, 49, admitted in court that he was arrested after traffic stop on June 14, 2018.  During the traffic stop, a K9 conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle where the K9 indicated there were drugs inside the vehicle.  The officer searched the vehicle and found 24.9 grams of methamphetamine.  Smith said he was delivering the product at the time of the incident.

Per the terms of the plea agreement that was negotiated between the State of Indiana and Defense Attorney Richard Ballard, Smith will serve 15 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with two years of that sentence suspended to be served on probation.  The agreement also recommends that Smith attend Therapeutic Community treatment or the equivalent of such a program in the DOC while incarcerated.

He was given 409 total days of time served which includes good time credit.
