Starke County Commissioners Recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

Annette VanSchoyck presents a Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation to Starke County Commissioners

The Starke County Commissioners took time Monday night to sign a proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention month.

Annette VanSchoyck with Prevent Child Abuse Starke County said they are making an effort to give community members information on how to spot and prevent child abuse.

“We’re going to have exhibits throughout the community, the libraries and different businesses,” said VanSchoyck.  “We’re participating in the Fun-Health Fair this Saturday night at the Community Center and just doing a lot of activities to prevent child abuse.  We’ll be giving tips and resources and different things to people – trying to make an impact before those things happen rather than trying to deal with it afterwards.”

She then presented the proclamation that the commissioners present signed that discusses helping to raise children in a stress-free and abuse-free community.

“We do hereby proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Starke County, Indiana, and urge all citizens, community agencies, faith groups, medical facilities, and businesses to recognize this month by declaring ourselves to the task of improving the quality of life for all children and families in Starke County.”
