Work Continues on Stellar Projects in Culver

Upcoming construction projects in Culver’s Stellar Communities Designation Program are taking shape.

Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the Culver Town Council members last week that the state will release funds for the OCRA-funded Culver Beach Lodge project on May 14. The town can then request reimbursement for claims that have already been paid.  It will be after then they can complete the signing of contracts with Michiana Contracting for the project with construction to begin shortly after that.

The grant funding for the Culver Beach Lodge project is $1.5 million.

Construction on the Culver Beach Lodge project is expected to begin this year.

For the Cavalier Park project, the bid deadline for the project is May 31. This project includes improvements to the soccer fields on the grounds of the Culver Community School Corporation, expanding the parking lots, moving the stormwater retention pond to the east, building a restroom facility near the fields, adding a toddler park, and a walking trail on the perimeter of the park.

In reviewing the plans, Leist said the walking trail may be bid as an alternate project to help bring down the overall cost of the project.  The playground equipment at the Culver Town Park, entry sign for the Cavalier Park, and the amount of grading and reseeding on the upgraded soccer fields may also be bid as alternate projects.

The grant funding from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs is about $500,000.  Construction on Cavalier Park may begin yet this fall.
