Two defendants appeared before Starke Circuit Court Magistrate Jeanene Calabrese Tuesday afternoon for plea and sentencing hearings.
Gary resident, 28-year-old Kevin Henderson, pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the state on a Level 5 Felony charge of dealing in methamphetamine. He admitted that on Jan. 30, 2018 deputies from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department found items in his possession that point to the act of dealing in the drug. The plea agreement accepted by Magistrate Calabrese calls for three years served on home detention with electronic monitoring. He has to attend classes to seek rehabilitation from substance abuse.
In another case, 34-year-old Joshua Hansen, of North Judson, pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the state on Level 6 felony charges of resisting law enforcement and neglect of dependant. Hansen admitted to Magistrate Calabrese that on Dec. 19. 2018, he fled from officers in his car with his 14-year-old son in the vehicle. The plea agreement accepted by the Magistrate indicates that he will serve 18 months in the Starke County Jail with the time suspended to be served on probation on both counts. The sentences will be served concurrently, or at the same time.
