Caucus Determines New Pulaski County Prosecutor

Dan Murphy and Kelly Gaumer

A Republican Party Caucus held in Pulaski County Monday evening resulted in the selection of a new Pulaski County Prosecutor.

Ten eligible voters heard from two candidates vying for the position who submitted letters of interest to Republican Party Chairman and retiring Prosecutor Dan Murphy by the advertised date of Friday, July 12.  Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kelly Gaumer and Attorney Blair Todd both spoke of their qualifications to hold office and their commitment to the Pulaski County community and the Republican Party.

When it came down to the vote, Murphy announced that a decision was made by the voters and the winner received more than 50 percent of the vote.  As determined by the vote, Kelly Gaumer was selected as Pulaski County’s next prosecuting attorney.

“I’m looking forward to serving the community of Pulaski County,” commented Gaumer.  “I’m excited to continue to prosecute cases and keep the office running the way it has been.”

After 18 years as prosecutor, Dan Murphy heads into retirement beginning Aug. 3 and he is looking forward to some free time.

“My wife has been retired for three years and we want to do some traveling.  I would really like time to go fishing.  I really miss that!” smiled Murphy.

He said he has called Pulaski County home since 1982 and is grateful for the community spirit.

“I appreciated the time and the support that I got from the police and the court, and the community as a whole.  When I came here my family was very young and I found it was a wonderful place to raise a family.  Everyone was helpful, supportive, and went out of their way to do things for us.  It made me feel like I was born and raised here.”

Kelly Gaumer will begin in her new position in August.
