La Porte County Sheriff’s Department Investigates Crash

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in La Porte County on Friday night.

According to officers from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department and the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Kimberly Morehouse, of La Porte, was traveling north near the 2500 North block of U.S. 35 when it crossed the center line and struck a vehicle head-on.     

Police say Morehouse had to be extricated from her vehicle by firefighters from the Center Township and Springfield Township Fire Departments.  Both Morehouse and the driver of the second vehicle, 45-year-old Augstin Flores-Garay of Chicago, were transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for serious injuries. 

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Center and Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Departments, La Porte County EMS, La Porte and Michigan City Police Departments, and La Porte County Haz-Mat. 

The crash remains under investigation.
