A man was injured after being involved in a single-vehicle accident on State Road 8 just east of 300 E. in Knox on Thursday afternoon.
Police say the man was driving his vehicle east on State Road 8 and for an unknown reason left the roadway, drove through a corn field and struck an Kankakee Valley REMC pole.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they reportedly found an unresponsive man trapped inside the vehicle, according to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department. The report indicates that firefighters from the Knox-Center Township Fire Department assisted EMS personnel in extricating the man from the vehicle. He was then taken to Starke Hospital for medical treatment.
Police believe that drugs and alcohol are not factors in the crash.
State Road 8 was closed for a period of time while REMC crews could repair the pole and power lines.
