Two defendants were sentenced in Starke Circuit Court Wednesday morning per the terms of their plea agreements.
Starke County Magistrate Jeanene Calabrese accepted the plea agreement between the State and 41-year-old Chad Dickson of Hamlet who pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine as a Level 6 Felony. Dickson admitted to possessing the drug during an incident on Oct. 17, 2018.
Prosecuting Attorney Leslie Baker noted that Dickson had no prior criminal history prior to this incident and took it upon himself to seek treatment for drugs and another condition with a counselor without an order. Defense Attorney Cassandra Hine noted that he is working to not re-offend and regain his good standing in the community.
Dickson was sentenced to two years in the Starke County Justice Center with all of the sentenced suspended to be served on probation. He will participate in programs as recommended by Community Corrections officials. Dickson will be under the supervision of officials in Marshall County.
Magistrate Calabrese also accepted the plea agreement between the state and 29-year-old Chad Osborne of Winamac who pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of methamphetamine as a Level 6 Felony in separate cases. He admitted that he had the drug in his possession on Sept. 9 and Sept. 19, 2018, when stopped by police.
Osborne was sentenced per the terms of his plea agreement which called for 10 months in the Indiana Department of Corrections with all of the time suspended to be served on probation on each count. The sentences will be served consecutively and he would need to participate in any drug treatment programs through Starke County Court Services.
