The missing Hamlet children and a suspect listed in a previous AMBER Alert have been located and are safe, according to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.

Two Hamlet children are believed to be in extreme danger in information released in an AMBER Alert sent Saturday morning.
The victims, 7-year-old Ayden Javier Mendez and 3-year-old Yulianna Rose Mendez were last seen in Hamlet on Aug. 8 at 1:37 a.m. Ayden was last seen wearing a black basketball jersey with “MEXICO” written on it and black shorts. Yulianna was last seen wearing a white shirt with colored designs on the front and turquoise shorts.
Hamlet Police Department officers believe they are with 28-year-old Francisco Javier Mendez, described as a Hispanic male, 5’6” tall, 175 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen driving a black 2013 Audi with the Indiana license plate number LE5262.
