Hamlet Town Council Considers Restricting On-Street Semi Parking

The Town of Hamlet may be looking to restrict on-street semi parking. Engineer Lee Nagai helped oversee the recent Railroad Street paving project. He asked the town council Wednesday whether there’s anything prohibiting trucks from parking there.

“Sooner or later, when they park there loaded, they’re going to end up messing up the new pavement,” Nagai said. “I mean, I didn’t know if you guys had any thoughts on that.”

Council Member Connie Bailey replied, “I’ve had a couple people ask me about it, too. They are concerned about coming in with the full-loaded truck and it’s going to tear up the new road.”

Town officials didn’t believe Hamlet had an ordinance in place prohibiting trucks from parking on town streets. Town Attorney Martin Bedrock suggested asking the City of Knox for a copy of theirs. “There’s no reason why he can’t park over at the Co-Op property overnight,” he added.

But the town officials noted that Railroad Street will have to remain a truck route.
