Hamlet Park Board Decides Not to Pursue Any Major Projects this Fall

The Hamlet Park Board has decided to hold off on any potential upgrades, pending the outcome of Constellation of Starke’s Stellar Community efforts. For months, board members have been discussing the possibility of completing at least one project in the Town Park this year, if money is available.

Last week, Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts told board members that there’s about $3,000 left in the equipment budget, but she wasn’t sure how much of that may still be needed to winterize the bathrooms. There will be less money in Hamlet’s park budget next year, but on the other hand, Pitts noted that the town could see significant funding if the Constellation of Starke region is designated a Stellar Community.

“If we get Stellar, we’re going to get a new skate park out of it,” Pitts said. “So I’d hate to, in a sense, put money into the skate park this year, if we’re going to get a whole new one next year.”

Constellation of Starke is one of four finalist regions for this year’s Stellar designation. The winner is scheduled to be announced in December.
