Pulaski County Officials to Get Final Report on Courthouse, Finalize 2020 Budget

The future of the Pulaski County Courthouse and the finalization of the 2020 budget will be part of a busy night of Pulaski County government meetings. Indiana Landmarks and Rowland Design will present their final report on the courthouse during tonight’s joint county council and commissioners meeting.

They have been working on plans to keep the historic courthouse in use, while addressing a number of issues, such as security and drainage. Rowland’s preliminary report included a $4.5 million option that would keep Circuit Court where it currently is or a $6 million option that would move it into an expanded Justice Center.

Tonight’s joint Pulaski County Council and Commissioners meeting starts at 6:00 EDT at the Pulaski County Highway Garage, followed by the council’s regular meeting at 7:00. Council members will make their final decisions about what will make it into the 2020 budget.

As it currently stands, funding for the Microfilm Department and the Community Development Commission’s project coordinator position would be eliminated. CDC Executive Director Nathan Origer is on the agenda to make the case for adding it back in. After years of discussion, the 2020 budget may finally include funding for courthouse security. That amount is currently set at $60,000, although proposals have ranged from $20,000 to $110,000.

In other business tonight, the Pulaski County Council will consider several additional appropriation and transfer requests. Sheriff Jeff Richwine will give updates, and resident Joe Moyer will talk to council members about respect.
