Two people were arrested on Oct. 2 after a La Porte County Sheriff’s Department deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 5,800 North block of County Road 450 West in rural Springfield Township.

The driver, 32-year-old Patrick Myhand, of Michigan City, reportedly committed a traffic infraction while traveling on U.S. 20 which led to the traffic stop.  During the traffic stop, police say illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.

Myhand was arrested on a preliminary felony charge of dealing in methamphetamine and two misdemeanor charges of driving while suspended and possession of paraphernalia.

A passenger in the car, 28-year-old Amelia McCullough, of Chesterton, was taken into custody after officers learned that she was wanted on drug charges out of St. Joseph County, according to the report.

Myhand remains in the La Porte County Jail on a $50,005 cash bond.  McCullough was released into the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless proved guilty in a court of law.
