Illinois Man Accused of Dealing Marijuana, Following LaPorte County Police Chase

An Illinois man was arrested on suspicion of dealing marijuana after allegedly leading LaPorte County Police on a pursuit early Saturday morning. Sheriff’s deputies say they pulled over a vehicle driven by Nikko J. Shack, 23, of Dolton, Illinois, after seeing it commit two traffic infractions on southbound U.S. 35 a few minutes after midnight.

Officers say the deputy was still standing next to the vehicle, when Shack suddenly sped off south on Pine Lake Avenue. Police placed a set of tire deflation devices in the roadway as the pursuit approached Lincolnway, puncturing the vehicle’s two front tires. Another deputy later reportedly found a bag containing “a large quantity of marijuana” in the 1300 block of Pine Lake Avenue.

Shack was taken to the LaPorte County Jail. He faces felony charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana, and resisting law enforcement.

The traffic stop was part of the DUI Task Force, a federally-funded program allowing deputies to work overtime. LaPorte City Police also assisted with the arrest.
