Winamac Council Authorizes Town Manager to Handle Community Crossings Paperwork

The Winamac Town Council took action last week to streamline the funding process for road projects. The town was awarded more than $150,000 in the latest round of Community Crossings matching grants.

Rather than requiring full council approval for every piece of paperwork, council members agreed to let Town Manager Brad Zellers execute the necessary documents, at the recommendation of Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger. “INDOT is now on a timeline,” she explained, “and so once we got the approval from INDOT that we were awarded the money, we have 90 days in order to get everything in order.” Town officials said that arrangement has been used in past grant cycles.

In other business last week, the Winamac Town Council authorized the clerk-treasurer to buy a paper folding machine from DeGroot Technology for $1,200, replacing the town’s current one. Berger said it’s used to prepare bills, penalties, and similar documents for mailing.

Council members also agreed to hold their end-of-the-year meeting on Monday, December 30 at 8:00 a.m. EST at Winamac Town Hall.
