A head-on collision between a semi tractor-trailer and a Ford Ranger on the Indiana Toll Road resulted in the death of a LaPorte man Monday evening.
Indiana State Police say 57-year-old Richard D. Reese was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes at the 40.6 mile marker on I-80 shortly after 5 p.m. CT when a semi tractor-trailer traveling eastbound in the passing lane collided with Reese’s pick-up in a head-on accident.
The Freightliner came to rest in a median while the Ford Ranger went across the median before coming to rest in the left lane in the westbound lanes.
Reese was pronounced dead at the scene by the La Porte County Coroner. The family was notified.
The semi driver was not injured.
Toxicology tests are pending which is a routine procedure.
The Indiana State Police and the La Porte County Coroner were assisted at the scene by La Porte County EMS, Westville Fire Department, Center Township Fire Department, Cloverleaf Towing and the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
