Flooding Concerns Heighten with Rain Predicted the Weekend

Emergency Management Agency Directors in Marshall County and Starke County warn residents of weather hazards with the amount of rainfall predicted in the next few days.

The area is under a Flood Warning which is issued when hazardous weather event is imminent.  Weather predictions indicate that 3 to 5 inches of rain is expected to fall through Saturday.  Officials from the National Weather Service believe that rain and mixed precipitation will continue through early Sunday morning.

Moderate flooding may occur on the Yellow River and the Tippecanoe River.  Significant flooding of low lying areas, streams, creeks, ditches, and retention ponds is likely.

Travel may become hazardous with ponding water on roads in areas.  The predicted mixture of precipitation on Saturday will impact road conditions.

Marshall County EMA Director Clyde Avery says people living in flood prone locations should move vulnerable property to higher ground, closely monitor the forecast and be prepared to implement their emergency plan.  Never drive around road closed signs as high water may be present.  Turn around and find a safer route.
