Knox City officials are about to take a major step forward for the planned improvements at Sandy Acres Park.
Mayor Dennis Estok recently informed council members that the Department of Natural Resources has received the grant funding for the project so City officials have been able to get the process started.
He mentioned that bids related to paving and sidewalk construction will be opened at the Knox Board of Works Meeting on Wednesday and added that the pre-fabricated restroom facility will be ordered soon.
He reminded the council members that the City has already set aside some money from the CEDIT fund to pay for this project and officials will be able to submit reimbursement requests to the DNR on a quarterly basis.
As a reminder, back in April the council approved a resolution related to this project.
It authorized $215,000 to be appropriated to the Sandy Acres Park Grant fund within the CEDIT account.
The resolution also allowed that money to be split up and transferred to two separate line items; $107,500 will go cover reimbursable expenses related to the grant itself and the other half is set aside for the required match.
Mayor Estok said they’d like to get the Sandy Acres project finished up as quickly as they can so the reimbursed CEDIT money can be returned to the fund and utilized for future projects.
