Knox Wastewater Superintendent Kelly Clemons recently told Board of Works members about how her Department was able to save more than $725 on a recent repair.
Superintendent Clemons reported that a 10-year-old muffle furnace at the plant recently had an issue and noted that it would have been over $1,000 to have someone come out and service it.
Clemons said she consulted with someone over the phone and asked what the issue could possibly be and they advised her that it might be a relay.
She told members, “We went ahead and ordered the relay and we contacted McGrath’s to come out and install it so we ended up spending $273.50 to repair that.”
Clemons commented on the significant savings and added that an entirely new furnace would cost around $1,500 so it didn’t seem justifiable to have someone come out to work on theirs for close to that amount.
