Knox Mayor Urges Participation in this Year’s Census

Knox Mayor Dennis Estok is urging resident participation in this year’s Census.

According to the 2020 Census website, Census results influence highway planning and construction, as well as grants for the public transit system, how money is allocated for the Head Start program, grants that support teachers and special education, and programs that support rural areas, child abuse prevention, and housing assistance for older adults.

The Census information also determines Congressional representation.

Mayor Estok said Census information is basically a questionnaire about yourself and everyone living with you.  You can take the questionnaire online in March or one will be mailed to you in mid-march.  The information can be filled out and sent back.  If the information isn’t mailed back or received online, Estok said a Census worker will visit your home to gather information beginning in May.

“We encourage everybody to do it online to get it over with or answer your questionnaire when they send it to you,” stated Estok.
