New York Man Arrested after Police Report Finding Drugs during Toll Road Traffic Stop

A New York man is accused of dealing or delivering marijuana, following a traffic stop on the Indiana Toll Road Wednesday afternoon. LaPorte County Police say they saw a westbound vehicle following too closely, speeding, and then committing a third violation when changing lanes.

A sheriff’s deputy pulled over the vehicle when it pulled into the Wilbur Shaw Travel Plaza. A state trooper and his K-9 partner arrived to assist, and police say a large quantity of an illegal drug was found. The driver, Hui Wei Zheng, 48, of Booklyn, New York was arrested on suspicion of the Level 5 felony of dealing/delivery of marijuana.

The sheriff’s deputy who made the traffic stop was working the Domestic Highway Enforcement program, an effort aimed at disrupting the flow of drugs and weapons. It’s one of the programs put in place as part of LaPorte County’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area designation.
