North Judson officials are getting ready for a fun run and 5K planned for April. Starke County Tourism is planning a Spring Has Sprung Bloomers Run for Saturday, April 25. Tourism board representative Mark Rippy discussed some of the plans with the town council last week.
Council President John Rowe didn’t see any issues with the route, but noted that County Road 350 West may be a bit busy. Town Marshal Kelly Fisher didn’t think it would be bad on a Saturday, though. “I told them if we needed to go, like, in front of the group or behind, that we could,” she explained. Fisher said she’d also let the Sheriff’s Office know.
Town Superintendent Joe Leszek noted that the event shouldn’t interfere with any construction projects.
Rippy said the goal of the run is to promote the community and bring new people in. He added that the event will benefit the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, since it’s one of the county’s most visible destinations, and the museum’s leadership has offered to help.
Participants can choose from a 5K run or a one-mile fun run or walk. The unique feature is that the person wearing the most unusual pair of bloomers will get a prize.
Pre-registration continues online through Eventbrite or by picking up a registration form at the Starke County Chamber Depot in Knox.
