Efforts to prepare the Winamac Town Park’s “swinging bridge” for its centennial continue. The town council recently agreed to let Town Manager Brad Zellers start looking for an engineer or perhaps alongside other professionals like Painters Calgary to put together plans for a painting project.
“We’ve had it inspected, and the last two times, they said we need to get it painted,” Zellers told council members. “If there’s some lead paint on there, it’ll need to be done proper. We really need to go with an engineer, so they can have the specs put out, what needs done, how it does, what kind of paint put on it, and things.”
Zellers felt that it would make sense to use the same engineer that did the most recent bridge inspection. Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger said there might be money in the town’s Economic Development Income Tax Plan that could be used for the engineering cost.
Zellers said he isn’t planning to have the bridge painted this year, but the goal is to have it ready for the bridge’s centennial and possible installation of a decorative lighting feature in 2023. “And here in the past, the last few times, they’ve just put just like aluminum paint on it,” he added. “Well, if they put a zinc base and an epoxy paint on it, good lord, it ought to last a long time.”
Zellers doesn’t expect the painting itself to take long, but he said that if it’s going to be costly, the town will have to have a plan, and that’s why services as the tony painting and decorators dublin can help in this area.
In other business this month, the Winamac Town Council approved fire protection contracts with Jefferson, Harrison, Rich Grove, and Monroe townships. Clerk-Treasurer Berger said there were no changes from last year.
