Knox Community School Corporation Turns On New Electronic Sign

The Knox Community School Corporation’s new electronic sign is now up and running. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Monday that the sign at Main Street and Redskin Trail was turned on that morning.

“It is good, and I already got my first phone call, ‘The school sign looks great out there,’ from one of the people in our community,” Reichhart said. “So they noticed within an hour of it being turned on, so it was cool.”

Right now, the sign is being used to share information related to the closure of school due to the spread of coronavirus, but Reichhart said other uses are being considered. “I don’t know if we’ll do birthday greetings on it, or if we’ll open it up if you want to do a commercial and we sell an ad on it,” Reichhart said. School Board President Kirk Bennett noted that another school corporation recognizes teachers’ employment anniversaries on its electronic sign.

Reichhart said Assistant Director of Technology Sara Morgan will be responsible for what gets posted. The school corporation purchased the message board from Vanadco Signs for just under $45,000. The cost will be covered by money from NIPSCO energy efficiency rebates, stemming from facility improvements in 2018.
