Oregon-Davis Junior/Senior High School will have a new principal next school year.
Current guidance counselor B.J. Awald was appointed to the principal’s position by the school board Monday, according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman. “She’s been in the corporation since 1997,” Harman says. “Mrs. Awald has a passion for Oregon-Davis, and she has impacted so many students and also the community. And so we’re very excited that B.J. Awald will now be the high school principal starting next school year.”
She will replace Dr. Harman, who’s been serving as high school principal in addition to superintendent for the past several months. Harman is leaving Oregon-Davis at the end of June to take over as executive director of the Northern Indiana Educational Services Center. He says he hasn’t asked the school board to formally accept his resignation yet, but he expects that to happen in the near future.
The school board did accept the retirements of teachers Bonnie Schwenk and Tami Whitcraft on Monday. “They have been teachers in our corporation for many years, and they’ve had such a great impact on many children in our organization and also the community,” Harman says. The superintendent wishes them luck in their retirement.
