The Starke County Commissioners approved paperwork this week to move forward with refinancing the jail bonds.
Based on the information given by Baker Tilly financial experts, the commissioners agreed to go with a refinancing rate at two percent and shorten the term of the loan by two years. The last payment should be significantly smaller. A net savings will total $781,414.08.
The current payment is $535,000 twice a year.
