The Starke County Commissioners met in emergency session Monday afternoon to confirm orders sent down from Governor Eric Holcomb.
As a result, effective immediately through April 7, some county offices will be closed. Those offices include Starke County Surveyor, Starke County Veteran’s Service, Starke County Planning Commission, and EMS office staff.
The Treasurer’s Office, Recorder’s Office and Assessor’s Office will be reduced to one employee. There will be one security guard at all county buildings.
The Auditor’s Office will be reduced to two employees and the Clerk’s Office will have three employees.
Solid Waste and Soil and Water Departments will operate under normal conditions.
Court staff, the Sheriff’s Department, Health Department, EMS Operations, and Highway Department employees will operate under the direction of the elected officials or supervisor.
Even with this order, all employees will be considered “on call” until close of business on April 7. All full-time and part-time regular employees will continue to be paid without having to use sick or vacation time.
If employees are over the age of 60 and/or have an underlying severe medical conditions, heart conditions or diabetes, they should stay home during this time period.
