Winamac Park Board Considers Landscaping Improvements at Fairground Entrance

The Winamac Park Board continues discussing ways to spruce up the entrance to the fairgrounds in the back of the Town Park. During this month’s meeting, Park Board President Jon Chapman noted that the short wooden posts surrounding the circular landscaped island where the sign is located are rotting. He proposed making that area smaller, but replacing the wooden posts with a concrete curb.

Chapman said the contractor working on the new restrooms would be willing to install the curb at a cost of about $40 per foot. “While he’s down there, I’d really like the idea of having a poured curb, get those pilings out of there, put some big landscaping stone around there,” Chapman said. “I shared this with Theresa from the 4-H, and she thinks it’s a great idea because they can just bring in flowers and pots the week of the fair, and there’s no maintenance for that guy throughout the whole year, except running a blower.”

Park Board Member Steve Miller once again suggested revisiting the landscaping by the Town Park’s front gate, and Chapman discussed the idea of removing some of the decorative grasses by the swinging bridge that have become overgrown. He said having a clean area might help showcase the bridge during its upcoming centennial.

Those suggestions will be discussed in more detail during the Winamac Park Board’s next meeting.
