INDOT Crews Begin Roadside Operations

Contracted crews with the Indiana Department of Transportation began operations this week with mowing, litter pick-up and herbicide application in the roadside management program.

Crews will be mowing 15 feet from the edge of a paved roadway in order to improve sight distance and maximize safety.

Trash and debris will be removed from the state right-of-way in an effort to clean up the area.  According to INDOT, 8,500 tons of litter was collected along state roads in 2019.

INDOT officials say herbicide application helps combat invasive species and noxious weeds along state roadways.  Application timelines are set to reduce impact on nearby crops and allow for growth of healthy plants and grasses.

Drivers are urged to watch for road work, slow down and try to change lanes whenever possible to ensure worker safety.
