Lt. Gov. Says Agencies Will Continue Advocating for Rural Communities during COVID-19 Recovery

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch speaks during state officials’ virtual press conference last Wednesday.

Making sure rural communities can get help recovering from COVID-19’s economic impact will be a big goal of Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch and the agencies she oversees.

“Our Main Streets throughout rural Indiana have been adversely affected, as have the Main Streets in urban Indiana, but we are focusing our resources through the communities that I serve on our small and rural communities, understanding that our Main Streets are the heartbeat of rural Indiana,” she tells WKVI News.

Crouch has often called rural Indiana the “next great economic development frontier.” She says rural communities are a big focus for her agencies, not just the State Department of Agriculture and the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, but also the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority and Office of Tourism Development.

In addition to helping rural communities directly through those agencies’ resources, Crouch says her office also advocates for them to the governor. “Governor Holcomb certainly understands, appreciates, and recognizes the value of the contributions that rural Indiana makes, not just in our economy but in our quality of life,” Crouch adds.

The lieutenant governor also thanks the health care workers and other front-line employees serving Hoosiers in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
